Human and Social Development
Our students will study personal and human social skills and as they relate to students' identity in the world - both as individuals and as members of their community. We are learning that personal and human social skills encompass the abilities students' needs to thrive as individuals, to understand and care about themselves and others, and to find and achieve their purposes in the world.
Goals
- Improve student sense of well-being.
-
Supporting Transitions and Cultural Engagement:
-
Student Voice: Structures to amplify student voice such as talking circles, ensure Indigenous students’ perspectives shape school initiatives.
-
Extracurricular Opportunities: Expanded extracurricular activities (e.g., Indigenous culture club, Indigenous games club) supported by the Elementary School Operational Plan encourages Indigenous student participation, fostering leadership and core competencies.
Our Gr. 5 students visit their family of schools at Eugene Reimer Middle and Rick Hansen Secondary to make connections before attending. This gets them excited about the next steps in their educational journey and gives them the chance to meet their future Indigenous support workers as well as make some new connections and friends
