National Accessibility Week: Creating Inclusive Spaces for All Learners
This National Accessibility Week, we took time to highlight the many ways our schools can become more accessible, inclusive, and welcoming for all students—regardless of ability.
Throughout the week, we shared:
-
Tips for supporting students with hearing differences, from improving classroom acoustics to using captions in virtual meetings.
-
The importance of accessible playgrounds, emphasizing universal design and inclusive play so every child can participate.
-
A spotlight on our school namesakes—Eugene Reimer, Terry Fox, and Rick Hansen—three incredible athletes with disabilities who inspire our community.
-
Local adapted sports opportunities that help students stay active and connected through inclusive recreation.
-
Information on vision loss in students, including common signs, tools for support, and the importance of early detection.
We are committed to making all of our communications more accessible, including on our website. This post was designed with a white background and high-contrast text, and includes alternative text for all images to support screen readers.
Accessibility is a shared responsibility. By working together, we can ensure every student in the Abbotsford School District feels seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.
